BA (Hons) Costume for Performance

I am an enthusiastic and hard-working individual who enjoys every aspect of the design process. My foundation course in theatre design at Wimbledon College of Art has provided me with a basis for integrating costume design with set design and art direction. Carefully considered research underpins my design process, as does a genuine interest in building narrative through costume. My inquisitive nature allows thoughtful experimentation to feed back into my understanding of character and script. I have worked as a costume designer for short films and music videos and additionally as a costume trainee, standby, assistant and maker on a range of theatre, dance, opera and film productions. I have a professional attitude and enjoy working collaboratively. For the final year of my degree I devised the narrative for a collaboration with film maker Emma Nichols, using oral histories, personal artifacts and site specific research to build a story around childhood through the 1950s and 1960s. Looking closely at the way that children interpret personal space through imagination, I designed costume and set to represent a dreamlike state corresponding to childhood play. As a short film, 'The House' will explore a nostalgic attachment to childhood spaces and objects, focusing on a ghostly child who inhabits the house she grew up in. I art directed and project managed the film, also working collaboratively with choreographer Jayne Lawrence to devise the movement of the piece. Technical skills include historical and contemporary pattern cutting, tailoring, corsetry and frames, millinery, fabric manipulation and decoration. Joe Cho A/W 13 collection

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Menswear

I pursue the off-the-rack clothes than splashy avant-garde garments and put stress on the practicality of clothes. My design philosophy is to make modern, chic and futuristic garments. My concept is starting from the theory of a parallel universe. I was always longing to see another version of me in another world. In 2013, an earth in another universe, the western era still exists. Over a long historical period from the “Wild West” era to the present day, the division between the native Indians and Americans has disappeared. Just like individual cultures may harmonize and mix in history, their attire appeared to have mixed without distinction in this different universe. For instance, a person who has cowboy clothes on him might be wearing Indian pants and a person with Indian clothes on him might be wearing cowboy chaps. In this universe, many people are afraid of going out because of gang named ‘PROPER’. I am a sheriff with the purpose of catching a notorious gang of 6. I search out to block them with photographs of the wanted. In order to show these 6 gangsters, that is 6 lineups, I expressed it by including the Indian details on the basis of the silhouette of 1870’s in Western movies. I think that the clothes must give the feeling of the old west and at the same time, masculinity must be magnified in them minimally and futuristically. Suitcase Magazine Issue One Cover

BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development

I am the Editor-in-Chief of Suitcase Magazine. I produce features and editorial content, and oversea all contributions from our team. SUITCASE entered the world on 17th May 2012 with a bang and an instant sell-out at Selfridges. Currently the market is flooded with fashion magazines with travel supplements or features, and travel magazines, but we pride ourselves on giving attention and energy to both simultaneously. SUITCASE is the brainchild of students, Charlotte Summers and Serena Guen, referred to by VOGUE as a “force of nature”, and both aged 22, they are the youngest owners of an international magazine. Labeled as the “magazine of the future” by industry experts. SUITCASE does not sell you a pre-packaged lifestyle, instead for £5.00 we show you what each destination has to offer allowing the reader to create a unique experience. Essentially we do the (un)packing, leaving you with the little gems to spark your interest and allow you to delve further because, let’s face it, no one likes (un) packing. SUITCASE highlights international creative talent and development, interesting cuisine and the latest hotspots to visit. This is achieved by a quarterly magazine in print, supported by a constantly updated website featuring the latest events and openings, and a specifically designed application for the iPad. Most importantly Suitcase always delivering the highest quality at the lowest cost. charlotte@suitcasemag.com http://www.suitcasemag.com/ http://suitcasemag.tumblr.com/ http://www.facebook.com/Suitcasemagazine https://twitter.com/#!/Suitcasemag

Final-Techno

BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development

Brand Image & Design Inspiration The brand’s ultimate target is to combine aesthetic and technology. The current conceptive fashion and interactive technique embedded garment, those most likely have prestigious technology involved, are still in the stage of bulkinesss, modernity and geometric silhouette. Technology has often been linked to Supermodern clothing, which is defined by ‘contemporary urban metropolis, responding physical and psychology demands of traditional spaces where modern life take place.’ (Bolton, 2002 p.7) In other words, most technological fashion products are structural and architectural inspired. However, there has yet to be a brand that merged technology with classic, flowing silhouette and femininity. The Unique Selling Point of the brand is to combine top edge technology and high-end classic ethereal style to create a new blend of conceptual contemporary fashion. This project is aiming to create a brand, which produces high-tech clothing that provides proper attention to both aesthetic and interactivity, by producing technological garments, which still contain beauty and wearability, CHlin is willing to bring conceptual creations to people’s life, rather than just pieces for exhibition. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Personal Profile A passionate and skillful student with eyes of creativity and technical practicality. Having the background of majored in scientific territory during high school, and now trained creativity and aesthetic in London College of Fashion. Equipped with a wide range of IT skills from Adobe suites, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, to Gerber Accumark and Optitex. At the same time proficient in technical skills as pattern cutting, machine sewing, digital print, and finishing for luxurious garments. Had interned at high profile brands, Preen and Temperley London as Studio Assistant. Interested in jobs that communicate design team and management department, bridging and balancing creativity and practicality. clin.jlin@googlemail.com

HUMANUS MANUS, COSTUME

BA (Hons) Technical Effects for Performance

Linea Stenfors was born and raised in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. She has supervised, designed and made costumes for many large scaled productions within Swedish television, such as “Sweden’s got Talent” and “Hole in the Wall” among many other. At London College of Fashion Linea has specialised in effect- and creature- costume, to broaden her costume making skills even further. She is well experienced within costume design, pattern cutting and tailoring and Linea is particularly good with fabricating and sculpting costumes on to the body, she is also experienced with body casting and mould making. Evolution - The End of Man Final Major Project During the summer of 2011 Linea was working on a project with the Swedish Photographer Robert Eldrim, and she mentioned her will to create something meaningful and challenging that could contribute to awake peoples awareness. They began to develop an idea of a project that would challenge the issues of our society, the issues that makes our planet and species slowly die out. Linea has designed this story, with its characters, by carefully researching the different subjects targeted. The characters have developed during a long time, and each and every one of them has a certain symbolic meaning. The goal was to challenge specific problems in our society without pointing at any specific individual or group, which is why Linea developed her own version of the human evolution. This way the problems can be targeted while avoiding stepping on someones toes. She has made all of the costumes, masks, make-up and props, using her skills within costume making and tailoring combined with her skills within technical effects. Robert has been in charge of the photography, and making the images come to life by his Photoshop skills and creative ideas. He has placed these characters into their natural environments, and made the world develop along with the characters. What we see in the images is the same man, changing appearance, that is worshipping and killing himself, as a metaphor of mankind... Writing is another passion of mine and I have my own blog which is I use as a personal record, displaying my garments, photography and the work and music of other artists. Throughout my time at LCF the progression and development of a garment has always fascinated me, the growth from what was an initial drawing to becoming an actual object. The same can be said about our skills and our own personal development we are constantly growing and enhancing ourselves. My Blog - http://lulumarshfashion.blogspot.co.uk/

Nine - Film. Final Major project

BA (Hons) Costume for Performance

I believe my passion for original and innovative costumes has pushed me to challenge the boundaries of what is traditionally perceived as costume through my interaction with objects and landscape. My excitement for character and concept has led me to produce a range of works which draw influences from existing narratives and philosophical concepts. I remain enthusiastic about all areas of costume whether contemporary or historic and have a high appreciation for tailoring which I picked up from my time spent interning on Savile Row. My previous experience includes a tailoring internship at Gieves & Hawkes and Henry Pooles and wardrobe experience on Les Miserables as well as assisting in smaller theatre productions and on student films. My final major project drew its inspirations from the works of John Cage and Marcel Duchamp and was directed by a series of chance determined operations. It also considers the theory of the observer completing the work through its use of reflective surfaces. I worked with themes that were loosely selected from Samuel Beckets Waiting for Godot, most notably those of isolation, repetition, unknown and on-going. With this work I sought to explore the limitations of costume and its potential to additionally exist as props and set. The costumes ability to merge into its landscape pushed me to consider the scale of the work and its potential to keep growing and expanding.

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

I'm studying Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear (BA) at London College of Fashion. Go to my website continuous updates of my work: http://www.saraarnesen.com/ ________________________________________________________________ Some of the materials in my 2011 collection may seem out of place; they’re generally used by women to beautify, flatter and accentuate themselves. Sometimes they’re seen as constricting and oppressive, but here, items are rearranged and used in a new context. Original purpose and old symbols of femininity are reinvented and disrupted. The outfits play on the norms and unspoken rules of how things should be constructed and what they should be made of. This collection was showed at Fashion For Show on the 28th of April 2011. It was the second fashion show I organized with the Fashion For Show collective. And just like last years show it was featured at Dazed Digital, http://www.dazeddigital.com/fashion/article/10294/1/fashion-for-show ________________________________________________________________ The Collection from 2010 is mainly influenced by playful and architectural African hairstyles. I was inspired by the construction of the ones that resembled cages. The idea of putting the body in a cage of hair later evolved into the prints I made on the garments. I am using synthetic hair in the accessories. I created these clothes and accessories for a fashion show, 'Fashion For Show', that I organized, held on the 27th of April at The Rag Factory, with 5 other fashion designers and 3 set designers. Together, we built the show from scratch; finding a venue, casting models, advertising the event and building the catwalk. We collaborated with make-up artists, hair stylists and DJ’s. The show was a triumph; between two shows the venue was filled with over 400 guests. We were featured by ’Dazed & Confused’ who attended the event, photographed the show and interviewed us for their website; http://www.dazeddigital.com/Fashion/article/7445/1/Fashion_For_Show __________________________________________________________________ Creative Education 2010-2013: Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear (BA), London College of Fashion, London. 2009-2010: Fashion Portfolio, London College of Fashion, London. A one year full time course focusing on fashion design with an emphasis on the design process; such as fashion illustration and photography, cultural studies, pattern cutting, sewing, fashion marketing, and styling for media publications. Aquiring creative and communication skills alongside technical ability using such programmes as Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. 2008-2009: Cutters Academy in Gothenburg, Göteborg, Sweden. A one year full time course focusing on pattern cutting and sewing, where I learned how to make simple garments as well as more intricate ones. The course also covered drawing and designing, as well as gaining knowledge of textile materials, sewing details, fashion history, marketing, and business administration. This course also gave me experience in dealing with public relations and advertising.

Places In Between

BA (Hons) Costume for Performance

I am a highly creative costume designer and maker with experience of working to contemporary performance alongside period specific briefs. Passionate about dance and movement as well as the impact culture has on costume design. My previous experience includes design assisting and sourcing for dance company dAnte or die, making for Phillip Treacy, performing alterations and making on various shows, such as Buxton Theatre Festival, Almeida Theatre as well as working on small budget projects and films. I enjoy using my skills and creativity to explore and push the boundaries of costume. I believe my interest in art, socio politics, textures, architectural patterns and movement shapes the way I see and explore costume. This was something I got to explore further through my Final Major Project; Places In Between. This was a collaborative project with two dancers and choreographers; Rosalie Whalfrid and Helka Kaski. Through challenging a traditional way of a design process, we worked closely together throughout the course of a year, doing design tests, and several rehearsals. We created a meeting between dance a costume, where the costume is incorporated into the performance. Being inspired by the theme of power, I used visual inspiration from Modernism and the utopian idea of Brutalist architecture, and the effect it has had on present day living in London. We used key words such as decay, fall of brutalism, growth/collapse, restriction of movement and following/directing movement as an initial starting point for our project. Titchlikes Business Cards

BA (Hons) Fashion Journalism (Print) (Broadcast)

I'm a Beagle-lover, a Mojito-drinker, a creative soul with an eye for good design. I write to make others laugh, to share my biggest love; music. I love Peep Show and sarcasm, favour iPhones over Blackberrys and make a mean cooked breakfast. I will be the last to leave a party and first to put the music on. I love heavy fringes and powerful eyebrows. Books are an essential, along with fresh flowers, good manners and a cheeky compliment. My Welsh family and friends are my world, and along with my work I am pretty happy. Follow me on Instagram to find out more @shortay8701 or email me at miss.jones.07@hotmail.co.uk for any queries. Titchlikes I created a website that reflects my feelings of what is currently missing today in the world of music journalism. It was sparked from a love of all things musical combined with wanting to showcase new writing to the public. Accessible to everyone, an online platform was crucial as well as links with social media. You can follow the website on Wordpress at www.titchlikes.com If you are one of the 500 million Facebook users, click 'Like' on our Page http://www.facebook.com/titchlikes Or if you want a neat little Twitter feed, follow us @titchlikes This is our 'About Us' section on the website; Here at titch likes, we have set out to fill the proverbial gap in the music journalism market with an online site that aims to forget the snarky hipster-elite and inject some intelligence, vitality and humour back into writing. You can browse through our Reviews to discover some new bands or delve into our Feature pieces and Style section for alternative content on all things musical. If you really want to be in on the tip top zeitgeist then our daily updated news section will quench your knowledge thirst, along with a refreshing sip from our extensive Playlist page that offers everything from songs to keep you going at the gym, to afternoon delights to bake a cake to. Our theory is that music is universal, loved by one and all, from your granny to that miserable bus driver who pulls a face when you don’t have change. So why isn’t it catered for? Why aren’t we satisfied? Do we really have to read yet another piece on how Colplay are the musical equivalent of AIDS or how a band is way too underground for you to have appreciated their latest post-dubstep release? Nah, music is not about any of that rubbish, it’s made to share, to chat about, to transport you back to a forgotten memory or mould a new one. It transcends borders and languages bringing people together to share an experience, be it a festival or a tequila-induced karaoke session. The physicality of music may have shrunk through the decades but its impact never fades. We aim to cover every genre from hip-hop to prog-rock to acid jazz with an open mind and a sharp pencil, showcasing the best in new writers as well as the seasoned hacks. Submissions are welcomed and comments encouraged to help us expand and improve our humble little site into a buzzing hive of words and music loud enough for everyone to hear.

Man to Mask- Music Image

BA (Hons) Fashion: Styling & Photography (Top Up)

Olivia Sarah Ann Weltz Telephone: 07446 559 350 Email: liviweltz@hotmail.co.uk I am a very inquisitive, experimental and driven person. I have specialised in Fashion Styling for the duration of my studies but I have always strived to push and manipulate the boundaries between Fashion, Art and Performance. My work takes strong inspiration from Art History, Folklore, Literature, Film, Theatre and Music and I always try to employ these sources into my Fashion Imagery. I have a keen interest in Costume and Prop Design and adhere to create my own pieces to style with along with Designer Collections. I also frequently collaborate with theatrical make-up and prosthetic artists to recreate the other-worldly characters I am so fascinated by. Working mainly with character styling, my work will always follow a strong sense of narrative and storytelling. This has led me to experiment in Fashion Film and Art Direction. I am currently styling, directing and producing a series of short conceptual fashion films using a combination of physical theatre and puppetry. I believe that layering and combining media gives opportunity for a richer and more artistic approach to conventional fashion. I am very eager and willing to work with other like minded creative’s, whether that involves styling for fashion editorial or film, costume and prop making or Directing. I hope that my dedication and enthusiasm to learn a variety of skills, in various media and in a range of fields, will encourage collaboration. Please feel free to contact me with your project ideas.
