Backstage Lisbon Fashion Week

BA (Hons) Fashion: Design Technology (Designer Pattern Cutter)

LISBON FASHION WEEK 'BERGIE SELTZER' AW 2014/015 ‘No man is an island, Yet every individual is an iceberg. Broken away from the mother glacier. Floating, floating on its own. Each one unusual. Uniquely shaped.’ (http://keelymyles.wordpress.com, 2013) “Bergie Seltzer” explores iceberg and ice platforms structures, combined with the anatomical form of its natural inhabitants, the penguins. Behind its outlines, shapes are modern and functional. Along with an inspiration from the 80s decade in men’s attire and the modern sportswear, this collection highlights a fun spirit allied to a current silhouette, creating a modern balance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twenty four year old Nair Xavier is from Lisbon. At fourteen, she initiates the professional course of Industrial Fashion at Escola Profissional Magestil. For two seasons she interns with the portuguese brand White-Tent and in 2008 moves to London where she starts her degree in Fashion Design Technology at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London. In 2011, she presents Adaptation, at LCF’s press show, destined to the London fashion industry. Since then Nair has moved back to her hometown and started her own Menswear label called Nair Xavier. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://nair-xavier.tumblr.com/ https://www.facebook.com/nairxavier.clothing INSTAGRAM : @xaviernair nairxavier.clothing@gmail.com

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

Fashion and textile graduate, specialised in embroidery. Work reflects an appreciation of all-over textured embroidery and clever use of colour. Often finds inspiration in natural history and science and often uses contemporary sources to develop new ideas. Has a strong interest in embroidery for menswear and aims to design textiles that can be used for both mens- and womenswear fashion. Cruise: Cruise is a collaboration between myself and menswear student Luke Shaw. By joining our faculties we have created a fantasy world built on imagination to inspire us to design a trans-seasonal mixed mens- and womenswear collection for the year 2012. http://showtime.arts.ac.uk/lukeshaw Links: http://www.c-heads.com/2012/07/31/flower-twins-by-flora-deborah/ http://oliviawright.4ormat.com/c-heads-com http://photos.latitudefestival.co.uk/2012/?image_keywords=artist:Graduate+Fashion+Show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8xqp1Ptaq4&feature=player_embedded&noredirect=1 Contact Info: freyjasjofn@gmail.com

LOOK TWO

BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development

Going to graduate from London College of Fashion in 2014 summer. Used to live in Savannah, United States and London, United Kingdom. Was born in Taiwan, study Statistics in the first university in Taiwan. Before graduated, found the interest in Design, especially in Fashion Design. In order to pursued the dream, arrived in the United States in 2007 Summer with one suitcase and the braveness. After one year training in English, finally started to learn the skills for designing. In 2008, the winter vacation in Taiwan, went to the induction of the University of the Arts London. Luckily, had an interview with the professor from London College of Fashion. And that was the starting point of the new life in London. Love colours, floral patterns, geometric shape, symmetric design. Love to exploring things from the daily life. Love to record the impressing scenery through the camera and keep them in files.
For this 2014 Spring/Summer collection. I love to exploring the cultures, from the east to the west. I combine Chinese Art - Lian Pu, pleats and curve lines together. Trying to create the harmony with the mixture through draping skills. By using the embroidery with the wool yarn, I create the bulky, chunky and fluffy texture patterns. This make the pattern look more 3 dimensional. And I love it. In this collection, the main fabric in Linen. I love using nature fabric. It is sustainable, it is gently to the skin and it is friendly to the earth. Website please visit: http://www.peiichuang.co.uk/ (The website will keep updating)

BA (Hons) Bespoke Tailoring

Originally from Hong Kong, Chan has been living in Italy, London and Sweden for 5 years, learning the art of crafts. Her fascination with anatomy has led her to the BA (Hons) Bespoke Tailoring course at London College of Fashion in 2011. While studying, she had a variety of work experience in both London (Aitor Throup and Thom Sweeney) and Sweden (Bespoke Tailoring House Bauer & Co.). In her final year collection, she has chosen the Skagen painters and the way they depicted the unique Danish landscape in the 1890s as inspiration. Improvising with the skills that she gained from previous years, the collection is created with the utmost attention to pattern construction and fabrication. Each outfit is ‘bespoke’ for a specific person, from measurements to fittings, making to finishing. Linen has been chosen as a predominant fabric because of its casual summer quality resembling the paintings of the Skagen artists. Furthermore, with her interest in sustainable designs, Chan also integrated natural dying in the collection. The sources of dyestuffs were grown locally in Hackney, London, where she lives and studies. The collection is not only a personal expression of her passion with tailoring, but also a collaboration with the final year fine art students in Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design. The garments would be used as costumes of a public performance in May 2014. Chan intends to pursue a career as a cutter after her graduation. She would like to continue working with the essence and timelessness of Bespoke Tailoring. Specialism Exhibition

BA (Hons) Fashion: Design and Marketing

My personal background is one of growing up on the grounds of an old Lancashire flax mill, with Japanese roots stemming from the partner of the construction group which built the Sydney Opera House, all of which makes me ludicrously engrossed in history of quality craft and structure. My work derives itself from a humorous scrutiny of societal pressures and implications on women with subsequent environmental and ethical consequences. By examining such instabilities my work lends itself a more concerning approach and therefore looks into how this can be made into a positive feature. These instabilities focus the eye, concentrate the brain, and ultimately connect and engage with the viewer or wearer. It is in this way that each piece strives to become an integral experience within its possessors' life. As a dedicated vegetarian it is particularly important that I source carefully for this reason and also to enable the materials to carry out the experience while retaining their qualities - Durable yet in the right sense of the term; withstanding usable time yet bio-degrading when the time comes for it to go back to the earth in which it was borne from. It is this very point that is a current ongoing exploration.

BA (Hons) Fashion Contour

Specialising in luxury lingerie, nightwear and other intimate apparel. Eva Lai launched eLai after graduated from London College of Fashion in BA Fashion Contour with first class honour in July 2012. " Touch is just as important as the aesthetic. Materials that I use are to invoke the senses. They are aimed to make wearers not just look great, but also to empower and invite confidence.""Attention to details is key, every stitch and trim counts. I design to flatter the female body, not to challenge it, hence the cut of the garments is extremely important. I love combining old & new, by bringing traditional elements into modern designs." Eva hopes to bring out the kind of seductiveness, which retains sophistication. It is classically elegant with a bit of kink and a scintilla of naughtiness! FdA Fashion Styling and Photography

I have a keen interest in practices that comprise of creativity and forming concepts, while including social and environmental consideration. Throughout my life, I have transitioned from a ‘dedicated church attender to a completely new ideology of ‘free thinking’. This has led to me incorporating both lifestyles into my styling i.e. experimenting with tailored and casual looks, with a hint of sex appeal. In a way, it also describes me as an individual – a constant battle with conformity. Lastly, aside from fashion, art has widened my creativity and theoretical understanding. Previously I was nervous about my place in the ‘art world’ and I have now adopted a new perspective. I feel that working with fashion and photography is ideal and makes use of my other skills i.e. painting, illustrations, poetry. I am most happy when working artistically, as I feel I am in exactly the right place at the right time – alongside a rack of clothes and shoes and a table of accessories.
