The Garden of Denim recycling collection

BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Realisation

I am a fashion and print designer currently studying in final year of BA HONS Fashion Design course . Throughout my academic and professional life, I have been identified as an exceptionally enthusiastic, passionate, hardworking and innovatively creative individual. I possess a vast knowledge in the fashion field, and have deep understanding of skills and techniques often resulting in teachers and peers taking inspiration from my work. I am determined to be at the forefront in everything I do, therefore I am self-motivated and self-assured. I would class my style as innovative, but chic. I like to merge classic with modern/futuristic to create an inventive look. With a vast experience in pattern cutting and manipulation I create garments which would test traditional methods of production. My design skills are versatile, and like my style are a perfect balance of innovation, wear-ability and class. I am incredibly versatile, well presented and well equipped with the core skills and techniques. I have a vastly impeccable knowledge in textile skill and technique, and an immaculate attention to detail. I hold the courage to be experimental and creative, the dexterity to explore past and current trends and fuse the two elements together to produce an appealing and ingenious result. I have extensive ability to research, analyze and highlight key information. Overall I can confidently claim that I possess the invaluable talent to create a collection from brief to realization with absolute ease. Online portfolio: http://www.behance.net/JoannaMichalska

BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development

Born and raised in the north of Italy, until high school when I moved to Sri Lanka. Over there I attended an international school, which gave me a very broad understanding of the world and other cultures. Ever since I have loved traveling around Asia, which cultures have always somehow inspired my work. After high school, I had the chance to live one year in Beijing. It was an excellent opportunity as the world of Fashion nowadays is very much related to China, in terms of suppliers and manufacturers. Although Haute Couture has always been my interest, I believe a general understanding of the world of fashion, from mass production to small tailoring businesses, is crucial in this business.

FdA Fashion Design Technology (Designer Pattern Cutter)

Originally a Chemistry graduate, Sam had a change of heart, she moved away from Hull to London in order to continue following her passion, and have not looked back since. With strong experience of working in a variety of roles within fast paced fashion studios, from well-established high end labels to freelancing for smaller start-up, as a machinist, pattern cutter to design assistant, Sam has began to build a good foundation for her career within Fashion. With an open-minded approach to experimentation, supported by a strong understanding of garment construction and an awareness of current trends, my work is often empirical, but just the right side of boring. Now seeking new opportunities. Website: www.shy-lies.co.uk (---under construction---)

BA (Hons) Cordwainers Footwear: Product Design and Innovation

SeungMi Kim BA(Hons) Cordwainers Footwear: Product Design & Development SeungMi Kim expects to become a creative and modern brand that will represent contemporary shoes. Mainly, it is inspired by a variety of art theories, issues or arts work that is reinterpreted in a modern way. The value of the brand will be enhanced through combing work with special skills and each design has a significant meaning. “Changes in form, illusion and technology” This main concept of the A/W 2013-14 is ‘Cubism’ which was inspired by cubism painting and sculpture. It is based on cubism theory; the main objective is to reproduce the surface through three-dimensional view and the basic perspective rule is abandoned and shows the same object in different sides. These were combined with my design, which resulted in a modern conceptual and fashionable shoe. I used 3D printing, which was hidden rather than showing on the outside to give change to the shape of the shoe. To create an optical illusion a point colour was used. On the whole, the collection shows dramatic elements of materials, colour and design. - Contact detail - sui.seungmikim@gmail.com 07738333109

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

A Surface Textiles student specialising in embroidery. Autumn/Winter 2014 ASA The Natural Transitions high-end ready to wear collection explores the forces of nature: the paradox of volcanoes discovering their immense beauty, which at the same time can bring out violent monsters. Observing the extreme power that nature can produce, which can stop the whole of Europe, as Eyjafjallajökull did in 2010; it was an example of the forces of nature and our powerlessness against it. Consequently exploring the effects we have on nature therefore experimenting with sustainable and unsustainable materials such as fur and plastics. The concept is experimented through innovative hands on textile methods such as; crochet, Irish machine, dyeing of fabrics, felting and embellishment. Using colour ways derived from the nature, such as earthy tones of browns juxtaposed with the acid colours from the volcanoes and geothermal pools in Iceland. The unpredictable atmosphere that the volcano concept creates has lead to design influences being derived briefly from the Native Americans but heavily from heavy metal rock and rock icons such as Jennifer Herrema. Contrasting their style with the Scandinavian minimalism. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

‘The Plateau’ is a contemporary narrative of the history of Persia. This collection is a modern interpretation of Persian nation by juxtaposing different elements, combining both ancient and modern Persian art, history, costume and architecture within contemporary looks, in an attempt to highlight the cultural realities about this nation. The initial inspiration behind this collection was the surreal reflection of history in Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s masterpiece ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’ which provided me with the idea of applying the communicative role of clothing to present cultural realities about Persia through rediscovery of the various historical eras. Expressive silhouettes, attention to details and use of crafts due to my Persian origin as well as my admiration for exclusivity of high design are highlights of my work. The sculptural shapes of the sleeves and bodices as well as the voluminous skirts are mainly inspired by the statues from ancient Persia and the women’s clothing from two of the most important royal dynasties in Iran. The curves are inspired by Persian architecture. Use of the colour blue in a variety of tones (aqua blue, Persian blue and turquoise), hues and textures reflects the divinity and importance of this colour in Persian culture. White-crème is the main colour used by ancient Persians and reflects the serenity and peacefulness of this nation. Also, use of rich ochre yellow presents the gold yellow which has always been used by the royals in the history of Persia (Iran), also is a symbol of fire as a divine element among the Persians. Bespoke jacquard fabrics used in this collection which are inspired by Persian motifs, emphasises on the historical roots of weaving among the Persians. Harris Tweed Collaboration-Industrual rEvolution-Photography by Lillian Harriman

BA (Hons) Bespoke Tailoring

Tailoring creates a solid foundation for the work I produce. Experimenting with menswear and womenswear I appreciate an attire that is suitable for both sexes; menswear with a subtle feminine touch and womenswear with an understated masculinity. My work tends to be based around a classic ethos, but still with a contemporary edge. I believe in garments that are timeless and less driven by the fashion trends. However, I do think a healthy balance between the two is essential otherwise fashion is never driven forward and therefore does not evolve. A clean cut is also another design principal I live by. Sharp lines and a clear structure set a foundation for me and then I build upon this with my choice of construction and in turn fabrication; through colour and texture. My rule of a clean cut is also put next to and balanced with my love of finishings; this is in terms of sewing finishes and fastenings. Detail and neatness is a part of my personality but also the way I work. Attention to detail is one of the most important skills I like to display and emphasis. I believe it really expresses the quality, time and love that has gone into the creation of a design. Being on the FdA Tailoring course and progressing on to the BA Bespoke Tailoring at The London College of Fashion I have a knowledge of both bespoke tailoring methods and production. This opens your mind to the differences and similarities of both tailoring fields and really helps to identify which you prefer and have more of an interest towards. I personally love to practice and demonstrate methods from both spectrums; I apply production methods predominantly but enjoy offsetting that with an emphasis of hand finishing techniques used in bespoke methods. My branding style has developed significantly in my last project. Employing a masculine and feminine aesthetic is something I have always subconsciously executed, but now I have identified and amplified the importance of it within my work; applying it as one of my design rules. Communicating this not only through the garments I create but also the face of the brand. In terms of inspiration I draw this from everything I see around me. Observation is one of my personality traits, and as mentioned before I pay great attention to detail. I notice the obvious but strive to look for the subtleties while always communicating this in a simplistic and straightforward way. 2013 July - LCF Press Show Entrance Display 2013 November - Victoria & Albert Museum Fashion in Motion Exhibition 2014 - Short listed for Diversity Now 2014 Project In collaboration with All Walks - Beyond the Catwalk and i-D Magazine, hosted by Arts Thread

To Enhance A Bespoke Fate, Toile AW 2014

BA (Hons) Bespoke Tailoring

Joshua Jeffrey Millard, the Farmers son from Dorset has brought his rural routes to the city of London, where he has developed the ability through learning Bespoke and Production Tailoring techniques to give body to his fantasies. Fantasies of which correlate around the beauty of the female form, and hybridise his rural-urban layers of inspiration together, to curate unique, quality garments. ‘My ambition has always been to resuscitate the tradition of British pride and the attitude towards ones own appearance, in turn rejuvenating the spectacle of class as my clientele are able to differentiate themselves from the masses’ He realises the importance of understanding construction and the engineering of the clothing when designing, hence from a young age taught himself and practiced the art of pattern cutting, and after finishing his A-Levels made the move to the metropolis of London in order to learn the fine art of Bespoke & Production Tailoring. His relocation to London has made him susceptible to different cultures and given him an insight into the reality of modern life. This has resulted in a catalyst effect upon the maturity and complexity of his work, and with this effect occurring over an 18-month period where he has already received a first class Foundation degree in Tailoring, he hopes to develop his technical ability even further on his final year of the BA Bespoke Tailoring degree. July 2013 - LCF Press Show Entrance Display September 2013 - Rodeo, Magazine Editorial, Paris & Stockholm. October 2013 - Insidebrackets, Magazine Editorial, Paris November 2013 - Victoria & Albert Museum, 'Fashion in Motion' Exhibition
