BA (Hons) Technical Effects for Performance
I joined LCF in 2009 completing a diploma in Image Styling for Performance, which paved the way for me to be accepted on the FDA Specialist Make-up & Hair for Film & TV 2010. In the 1st term of the 2nd yr of the FDA my creative needs had evolved as I was strongly drawn to the work I saw being produced in the Technical Effects studios, so I applied for a transfer to the BA (Hons) Technical Effects for Performance. I went through the interview process and I was accepted. Over the past five years of hard work and dedication I have developed an arsenal of technical skills such as silicon & fibre glass mould making , sculpting, life casting and puppetry, period hair & make-up and trauma make-up. Along with the technical skills I have learned about Character Construction through my engagement with the Cultural and Historical Studies aspect of the degree. This has not only given me the tools to create believable characters with depth and context, it has given me a better understanding of the world around me. As part of the degree we were required to spend six weeks working in industry. As I wish to work in live performance I arranged a placement with The English National Opera (ENO). I spent most of the time in the ENO workshop where I expanded as well as honed my skills. During the six weeks I also experienced installing a performance at the Coliseum where I worked with Prop Management. My time with the ENO has given me holistic hands-on experience that will be valuable to my future career.
