BA (Hons) Bespoke Tailoring

I grew up in a family divided between painters and academics where I learnt that there is always space for self expression. It is only a matter of understanding the most effective way to do it. That is the main reason I consider tailoring fundamental in my desing process, because it supplies a very clear means through which one can produce ideas. And it is a very fine one too. The combination between fashion design and tailoring is the key to my work's aesthetic: a point of view where there is a controlled evolution of modern silhouettes, with an equilibrate balance between shape experimentation and traditional crafting methods. A very rich and detailed design development lays at the base of my final outcomes. The creative process is for me a combination between the elaboration of a concept, a story to tell and a more instinctive experimentation through drawing, collage and photography. It is a constant tension among the visual and the intellectual that leads me through a continuous development of ideas. My strong background in history and literature, together with my passion for visual arts and music, are the engine behind my work, the source of my inspiration. Image Credits 1. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear r.hollis2@fashion.arts.ac.uk rhollis92@gmail.com "IS THERE SOMETHING BAD HERE" Is Isolation a dehumanising destruction of man or a beautiful solitude? This Collection explores the question of Isolation. Through the studies of Stanley Kubricks dark vision of the human psyche to the beautiful solitude of Scottish Highlands. Stemmed from personal interests of Kubrick's work; in particular The Shining and a patriotic admiration for Scotland did research and development evolve; creating an uneasy, eclectic and authentic collection. From hand dyed sheepskin to corduroy, suede and towelling, the collection explores a range of classic fabrications with a modern take. Textures and touch are imperative in my work as a Designer. Valentino Fall 2014

BA (Hons) Fashion Illustration

Joseph has a very distinct style and uses select materials to give all his sketches the same look. His work has been seen in in multiple publications, numerous websites and with clients ranging from Drapers Magazine, Mappin and Webb, Oxfam and The Sanderson Hotel. Specialising in Runway and garment Illustration, as well as shoes and accessories. His style is very quick, expressive and informal which is mirrored in his personality and energy. Concentrating more on the fluidity and feeling of the garment, instead of the physical features of the models or subject, Joseph brings a different view of runway garments.

SS/13 - Combining Fashion Illustration with Fashion Design. Looking at Marching Cubes (a computer generated algorithm) and contrasting this with nature and old cartoon sketches formed my illustrations. Designing a set of five tops; same cut, different fabric, I overlaid my illustrations on top to synchronise these together. ± SS/13 COLLECTION TOPS + ILLUSTRATION - Holley Potts PHOTOGRAPHY - Tamzin Haughton HAIR + MAKEUP - Scarlett Burton STORM MODEL - Annie Walker-Trafford STYLIST - Elle Baron VIDEOGRAPHER - Calvin Hayes ± AW/13 - Researching how chemical substances were originally used medicinally, but now widely taken for recreational use, I looked at today’s underground music scene. Seungmi Kim F/W 2014-5 Mood shoot

BA (Hons) Cordwainers Footwear: Product Design and Innovation

SeungMi Kim BA(Hons) Cordwainers Footwear: Product Design & Development SeungMi Kim expects to become a creative and modern brand that will represent contemporary shoes. Mainly, it is inspired by a variety of art theories, issues or arts work that is reinterpreted in a modern way. The value of the brand will be enhanced through combing work with special skills and each design has a significant meaning. “Changes in form, illusion and technology” This main concept of the A/W 2013-14 is ‘Cubism’ which was inspired by cubism painting and sculpture. It is based on cubism theory; the main objective is to reproduce the surface through three-dimensional view and the basic perspective rule is abandoned and shows the same object in different sides. These were combined with my design, which resulted in a modern conceptual and fashionable shoe. I used 3D printing, which was hidden rather than showing on the outside to give change to the shape of the shoe. To create an optical illusion a point colour was used. On the whole, the collection shows dramatic elements of materials, colour and design. - Contact detail - sui.seungmikim@gmail.com 07738333109

Print design based on group identity

BA (Hons) Creative Direction For Fashion

I am a Creative Director and an artist, specialising in combining the worlds of fine art and fashion. My work is grounded in sociological and philosophical reading, so it is usually through exploring a 'feeling' that I come to a creative concept. Currently I am looking at group dynamics and am commissioning portraits, in several different media, of community groups around London.

BA (Hons) Bespoke Tailoring

Tailoring creates a solid foundation for the work I produce. Experimenting with menswear and womenswear I appreciate an attire that is suitable for both sexes; menswear with a subtle feminine touch and womenswear with an understated masculinity. My work tends to be based around a classic ethos, but still with a contemporary edge. I believe in garments that are timeless and less driven by the fashion trends. However, I do think a healthy balance between the two is essential otherwise fashion is never driven forward and therefore does not evolve. A clean cut is also another design principal I live by. Sharp lines and a clear structure set a foundation for me and then I build upon this with my choice of construction and in turn fabrication; through colour and texture. My rule of a clean cut is also put next to and balanced with my love of finishings; this is in terms of sewing finishes and fastenings. Detail and neatness is a part of my personality but also the way I work. Attention to detail is one of the most important skills I like to display and emphasis. I believe it really expresses the quality, time and love that has gone into the creation of a design. Being on the FdA Tailoring course and progressing on to the BA Bespoke Tailoring at The London College of Fashion I have a knowledge of both bespoke tailoring methods and production. This opens your mind to the differences and similarities of both tailoring fields and really helps to identify which you prefer and have more of an interest towards. In terms of inspiration I draw this from everything I see around me. Observation is one of my personality traits, and as mentioned before I pay great attention to detail. I notice the obvious but strive to look for the subtleties while always communicating this in a simplistic and straightforward way. 2014 - Shortlisted for LCF Graduate Press Show 2014 - Featured in the LCF Moving Annual & Printed Annual 2014 - Shortlisted for Diversity Now 2014 Project In collaboration with All Walks - Beyond the Catwalk and i-D Magazine, hosted by Arts Thread 2013 November - Victoria & Albert Museum Fashion in Motion Exhibition 2013 July - LCF Press Show Entrance Display Credits for Images No.1 & No.2 Tailoring by Sasha Harris Embroidery by Can Zhao Photography, James Rees Creative Direction, Rob Phillips Beauty, Melissa Wong
