Joshua James explores themes of death and decay to breathe new life into the world of design. He also enjoys contrasting this somber theme by developing collections that boast a bold kitsch aesthetic. He used these ideals to create opposing and complimenting imagery. The inspiration behind this collection is connected to my Italian roots and my childhood memories. Exploring my Catholic heritage as well as religious beliefs and traditional celebrations, allowed me to create a modern and contemporary collection. The aim of my work is to celebrate the value of past memories, indispensable to establish the present and revive the future. The visual imagery I collected is mainly related to the Christian iconography as well as to the elderly people and their attitude to engage with religion in later life. The final outcome is the meeting point of juxtaposing elements: tradition and modernity, fluidity and severity, fragility and strength. The colors are mainly drawn from the Christian iconography and visual representation of the Virgin Mary: the choice of fun, bright and loud shades contributed to the creation of a bold wardrobe composed of voluminous silhouettes and an injected dose of modernity. The visual references I chose for my color palettes belong to a series of images called âinfinita Graciasâ taken from www.flickr.com, a sort of visual collection related to Christian symbols: electric blue, gold, orange, yellow and pastel pink were my main inspiration which enabled me to create an innovative and non-conventional winter palette. The bold and almost three-dimensional silhouettes are the result of my deep interest in structured, complex and detailed garments as well as my fascination of creative and innovative pattern cutting. My passion for collage also helped the creation and development of my garments and in the specific to the creation of the voluminous shoulder line, which is definitely the highlight of my work. The choice of cloths as well as the fabric manipulation helped my collection to reach a modern and contemporary finish line: bright orange and blue cashmere together with shiny stretch silks were emphasized by the addition of topstitching and quilting as well as mink fur details sponsored by Saga Furs. The aim of my final collection is to combine strong awareness in contemporary trends as well as fine technical skills. The revisited craft tradition of the quilting technique together with the exceptional choice of timeless fabrics such as wool cashmere, stretch silks and mink fur satin are the signature of my final work. My ideal customer is an independent and sophisticated woman, ready to present herself to the world in a non-conventional way. The voluminous shapes and intricate topstitching details clearly show a luxurious and exclusive taste. PROFILE Highly creative fashion designer with excellent hand drawing and visual skills. Dynamic and organised team player with well-developed written and verbal communications abilities, capable to quickly adapt within a high-pressured environment. Excellent customer service skills with a background in retail management. For Showroom and GARMENT REQUEST please contact: Squidsthlm Daniela Sylvan Tellander squidsthlm@squidsthlm.se or info@hellysaz.com â¢Statement A London College of Fashion Womenswear Design graduate, currently pursuing a successful career in Fashion Design. Specific interest in pattern cutting, sewing and tailored clothing. Highly motivated individual with an eye for detail and expertise in crochet, knitwear, print and surface embellishments as well as good skills in CAD programs such as Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. An energetic individual with professional team leadership skills looking for challenging, creative graduate design opportunity from July 2012 â¢Antidote As a future fashion designer, global issues are very important to me and this is reflected in my work. Fashion has always played an important role in war and is constantly used in propaganda and advertisements. In todayâs society we are under a constant and intense media bombardment about what is âacceptedâ and capitalism has turned fashion into a tool for mass production and fast consumption. Slowing down the process, I want to explore a more human alternative and concentrate on the essence of fashion which, for me, is fabrics, craft, and details. This minimal Autumn/Winter collection explores mobility within comfortable tailored clothes. I was inspired by a range of German Second World War uniforms that inspired the design and where the female becomes in a constant touch with masculine shapes. I also was inspired by Space Age images which led me to experiment and develop my own futuristic feel to the mood and fabrics where I experimented with using special machinery such as Tanaka. www.hellysaz.com www.facebook.com/hellysaz â¢Education 2009- Present BA Fashion Design & Technology Womens Wear The London College of Fashion, London Projects ⢠Final Major Collection ⢠Final Major Proposal ⢠Craft and Technology exploring personal identity ⢠Fashion and Sustainability ⢠Tailoring Team Work ⢠Denim and Jersey ⢠The White Shirt 2007-2008 Diploma in Fashion Folio Central Saint Martin College of Art and Design, London 2006-2007 Diploma in Foundation Art and Design Cumbria Institute of the Arts, Carlisle, UK 2004-2006 HND Graphic Design Cumbria Institute of the Arts, Carlisle, UK ⢠Design Experience 2011 May - September Tiger of Sweden Stockholm Design Assistance www.tigerofsweden.se 2010 June - October Charles Anastase London PA Assistance 2010 February - April Rui Leornades London Assistance http://www.ruileonardes.com/ ⢠Employment 2008-2009 August - September The Home of Alfred Dunhill London Fashion Consultant 2008 June -September Massimo Dutti Knightsbridge Head Cashier/Supervisor â¢Achievements Awarded Sponsorship with zip supplier Albert Zip http://www.albertzips.com.tr/ British Fashion Council short list graduate Paper Print Editorial shoot Portfolio review http://www.britishfashioncouncil.com/ Shortlisted Nina De York Fashion Illustration Award 2012 LCF 2012 Press Runway Show Candidate Cutler and Gross Student Finalist in Cutler and Gross Launching Project 0734 cutlerandgross.com Not Just A Label - BLACK SHEEP Becoming a Black Sheep in Not Just A Label, announced as one of the most promising and visionary designers of the moment â¢Skills Adobe Creative: Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign 2D to 3D realisation Indebt Researching & Referencing Drawing & Technical Drawings (hand rendered) Illustrations (Multi-Media) Illustrations (Photoshop) Collaging Technical drawings (CAD) Silk Screen Printing Digital Printing Knitting (Hand) Crotchet Weaving Embroidery Pattern Cutting (Flat & Stand Methods) Drafting patterns Toiling Tailoring Manufacture domestic and industry machinery Manufacture, specialising in Jersey Specialised Machinery: Tanaka Graphic Design Trend Predictions Styling Texture specialisation Hairdressing Makeup Image retouching Art Direction Language; Roxanne Palmer is a British fashion illustrator and freelance graphic designer based in London. She has recently graduated in BA (Hons) Degree in Fashion Illustration for Fashion at London College of Fashion. Primarily the majority of her work has used a definite realistic detailed style of work, particularly with their hair and facial features. There often seems to be a bold and energetic visual connection between them. The emotions of portrait and human expression is visually important to her work as well as the transfer of colour and the figure posture, as they too can also convey many emotions. Roxanne's work has not been limited in the use of media, however for the most part she has mixed traditional drawing skills with digital media. The blend of images produced exposed Roxanne version of reality with imagination â inspiration from real life (texture, colour, sound, etc.) has been essential in the development of all her work. Young london designer spreading positive social statements through her creative body of work. Her graduate range is called 'Fashion Vs Abuse'& has been inspired by the alarming rates of abuse within society today. The clothing has been designed with protective elements including buckles, animalistic feathers, custom crystallised rebellious spikes and the colour palette stripped down to a tonal nude spectrum. The headgear implies that women have no say when being abused & the harness restricts your body movement. The 'armoured crab' jacket is designed to enhance your confidence & the 'fleshed body' plays on female vulnerability. Alongside the clothing she developed a fashion technology product which is a combined rape/SOS alarm fashion accessory that works by sending a Bluetooth signal to your smartphone to send out a danger alert to a family member using its GPS technology to locate you. It also gives abuse victims confidence to walk the streets again as well as women walking home at night.
