BA (Hons) Cordwainers Fashion Bags and Accessories: Product Design and Innovation

Nina takes inspiration from personal experience and the quest to learn more. “Life is about stories; cars are produced for mass consumption and yet the same car has a different meaning to each individual. Each journey, layer of paint, flat tyre tells a story. Some cars become treasures as they age, timeless statements of class others will have been left to weather, becoming beaten up derelicts. Accessories should also tell a story, be timeless statements of one’s personal style and accompany a person over the years to become precious memories and reminders of lessons learned.” A childhood spent between south London and the southern German countryside wherever she found herself there was always the other place with it’s happy memories. Having a mixed background of German, Cuban and Italian her outlook on design has always been full of contrasts. Growing up in a family who are all makers from mechanics to seamstresses has had a big impact on her. Absorbing all these traits influenced her “it always has to be functional” way of design. This functional and practical approach also informed her decision to combine academic study with a part-time job first as product development assistant and then design assistant at Anya Hindmarch. This was an opportunity for her to put newly acquired theory to the test and into practice in the real world. The SS14 graduate collection ‘enchanted reality’ was inspired by key catalysts in her life. For her 9 muses she created a range that will help them express their personalities yet are functional enough to make their day run smoother and therefore helping them, in this small way, to make their reality as they desire. The ‘enchanted’ is a reminder of her first love - ballet. It being so beautiful yet the dancers are restricted by their bound feet. Her training had taught her that the lightness does come with huge effort and restriction on the dancers side. This must never be guessed by the audience though. It is an enchanted world a bit like our memories when growing up in two places. Experiencing this throughout her life she realized that it was possible to make your reality enchanted too. nina.ehni@gmail.com http://my.lcffirstmove.co.uk/graduates/7526 www.showtime.arts.ac.uk/ninaehni www.ninaehni.com uk.linkedin.com/pub/nina-ehni/38/b61/2b7/ CREDITS - IMAGES LCF ANNUAL 2013 Creative Director Rob Phillips Photography, Hill & Aubrey Model Chen at Select Hair, Pace Chen LOOKBOOK Styling Coco Ehni Photography David Sessions Models Coco Ehni and Hero Ehni

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

Seth Yeung was born on 1 January 1987. After years watching his mother knitting dog outfits for pets, Seth acquired not only her industry experience but her passion and drive for knitting. The Hong Kong native began his career working as a fur and textile designer with top brands like YSL and Yves Salomon. Seth’s experimental textile and directional vision quickly landed his winning collection “spread” in YDC10. He went on to study at the prestigious London College of Fashion and got chances to intern for Giles Deacon, Gareth Pugh and Sibling. With all of these experiences wrapped under his needle, Seth launched his namesake label, a line of edgy knitwear with a youthful touch. It attracted immediate press accolades from vogue.com, SCMP, appledaily and fashion156.com. Today, Seth is focusing on heading his own eponymous label. He has consistently produced a tight collection with quirky unconventional material and combinations; developing his own textile each season and offered a new angle of knitwear and excitement to his costumers. Seth Yeung’s restless obsession for his textile has inspired him to create a fresh and innovative style that is entirely his own. NZCA Lines / New Atmosphere

BA (Hons) Costume for Performance

My FMP was a collaboration with the band NZCA Lines on a video for their upcoming single - New Atmosphere. A scientist grieves at the loss of his love during the birth of a new protective atmosphere. Of which they sought together, in our future desolate Earth. Cairo Athens glows in nostalgia and unrestrained abandon, on the other side of the physical and moral world. In Cairo Athens we see a controller. She wears a design based on a collapsable structural origami. Constructed from laser cut plastic and aluminium. In hope of a new world, two scientists roam the desolate earth, in atmospheric suits and breathing apparatus, in hope of creating a new atmosphere. I currently work as a freelance costume assistant within TV, film and music. I am interested in art direction and set design as well as costume and was also responsible for all the locations you can see in New Atmosphere.

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Menswear

Look Book Location: lightship95 photographer: Sam Copeland Stylist: Sophia Probett models: Greg, Ty @ select and Danny @ lcf st LCF Annual 2013 Photographer, Hype D Creative Direction, Rob Phillips Beauty, Pace Chen  Model, Danny @ LCF St  Press Release The image of pirates conjures up images of childhood icons such as the infamous Captain Hook, Long John Silver or even the more recent Captain Jack Sparrow. However pirates, to some, will conjure up a different image and a very different kind of nautical buccaneer. For SS13 Michaelyn Thomas-Coxon has taken inspiration from dusted off super 8 footage of 60s pirate radio renegades to create a playful and practical debut collection. The joie de vivre mix of bright prints, oversized jackets and hidden nickel hardware detailing create a new psychedelic twist on 'nautical'. The collection is highlighted by the use of bright hues and kaleidoscopic floral acid prints. The vivid rust red and teal compliment murkier tones of blue grey, navy, green, peach and yellow, to form a vibrant balance of colours reminiscent of 60s photographs and still Super 8 images. The print which draws from acid rock album covers and vintage prints, adorns simple staple pieces such as t-shirts, trousers, shirts and bags, generating warm layers of interest through out the collection. Michaelyn has also designed and developed her own silicone screen print technique which she has used in acid yellow almost as a highlighter on dry suit style roll neck jumpers. This technique inspired directly by the grip on boats and the rubber of wet and drysuits, shows the experimental nature of her research and extent of personal creative investigation. Her outerwear garments have been carefully designed using technical fabrics and techniques to ensure practicality as well as a strong aesthetic. Chrome nautical fastenings have cleverly been integrated into the designs adding interesting details which compliment the simple shapes of the outerwear pieces. Frosted vinyl pieces add a layer of translucence, generating an alluring array of textures and colours. The collection has a ready for anything vibe, illustrated clearly in the moving images lookbook. http://issuu.com/michaelynthomas-coxon/docs/blow_me__ss13 http://issuu.com/michaelynthomas-coxon/docs/workbook_mthomas-coxon Press: http://blog.trendstop.com/2013/05/gfw-ones-to-watch-michaelyn-thomas-coxon/ http://www.mixmag.net/fashion/fashion-news/eyes-wide-open-for-michaelyn-thomas-coxon http://milkandblue.com/following/sophiaprobett.com/Michaelyn-Thomas-Coxon-SS14-Look-Book http://blog.stylesight.com/denim/isko-x-london-college-of-fashion Website: http://michaelyncoxon.wix.com/michaelynthomascoxon#!contact/c24vq

"The local outsider" The story starts from a 75 minute long awareness-raising documentary about Lao Hmong and my personal feelings after a Paris vacation in 2012. "Hunted Like Animals" was filmed by refugees who fled from Laos to Thailand. It explains what the military inside of Laos did to them, while they were running and hiding, half starved, from the attacks by the soldiers ~ over 30 years after the Vietnam War ended Link:http://www.sommerfilms.org/documentaries/Hmong/index.php Have you ever been trapped by Roma in a gold ring scam? I became concerned about the reasons behind it after I encountered more than eight Roma scam artists in one day. I started to reflect upon the poor living standards, negative social stereotypes and even enforced removal from their homes that this community suffers from. In order to express my concerns and raise public awareness "The local outsider" was born. A collection to promote ethnic harmony by increasing the profile of two oppressed minorities - Laos Hmong and EU-Roma. I have recently collaborated with Zoe Sterling for the Final Major Project photo shoot. Zoe's collection is based on 60s nostalgia and children's artwork. "The sky is blue for the same reason, but the blue at the horizon, the blue of land that seems to be dissolving into the sky, is a deeper, dreamier, melancholy blue, the blue at the farthest reaches of the places where you see for miles, the blue of distance. Blue is the color of longing for the distances you never arrive in, for the blue world." - Rebecca Solnit Travellers of this new century, migrate by option and desire to capture the changes of the world. The denim, this large portion of the project, connotes a democratic tradition and the appeal of the globalized world. Emphasized by with the use of ancient Japanese technique of Sakiori, the reuse of old material. Denim trousers were recycled and hand woven into pieces; the mass production transformed into hand made. MH Shoes This portfolio was developed as part of my graduation project for the course BA(Hons) in Fasion: Design Technology, with major in Footwear, at the London College of Fashion (2010-2013). Michele Hartmann Shoes is a brand that has been conceived for a modern, confident and independent woman, who is a leader, not a follower. INSPIRATION “I am not attracted to straight angles or to the straight line, hard and inflexible, created by man. I am attracted to free-flowing, sensual curves. The curves that I find in the mountains of my country, in the sinuousness of its rivers, in the waves of the ocean, and on the body of the beloved woman”. In the profession of make-up artistry Natalie has by far produced the best work for myself as a photographer, always delivering the exact results I ask for. She is very punctual, to a professional standard and very friendly. Natalie has a keen eye for detail in both make up and hair styling and with her I have produced some very professional images. I would definitely recommend Natalie to any photographer in the professional field as for her enthusiasm is paying off. Natalie has very good organisational skills prior to shoot: having discussions about what is expected in the shoot; from concept to clothing which I favour from a Make up artist. Natalie overall is a very professional worker I enjoy shooting with every time we meet and I’ll definitely be using her for future shoots for a long time. " Jessica Rigley. (photographer)"I worked with Natalie on a photoshoot in March for my FdA Showcase work, which was a series of Alice in Wonderland themed images. The work I required her to do was make up for the Cheshire Cat character, which consisted of a wide, toothy smile painted across my model's face. Throughout the planning of the shoot Natalie maintained very good contact, sent me sketches of her make up plan and accepted feedback and suggestions. On the day she arrived promptly with all her equipment and was ready to get straight to work. Overall the photoshoot, from planning to final photos went very smoothly and professionally, and I would recommend Natalie for photoshoots in the future." - Felicity Goddard. (photographer)
