VIA - Final Logo Design

BA (Hons) Fashion Contour

PRESS RELEASE VIA is a conceptual brand taken from the first Name of the London based designer – Olivia. The brand represents a clean, bold and modern approach to lingerie design which has been taken to produce a collection reflecting the initial inspiration found at the Palm House in Kew Gardens. These wonderfully magnificent, ornate glass and iron structures play host to specimens from such extreme places of the earth in an otherwise inhospitable environment (London), with only a sheet of glass to enable their survival. The fact these structures dictate such vital aspects of the plants’ lives such as growth and fertility is also of paramount importance to the concept. Using fabrics such as natural cottons and silks, contrasted with man made transparent PU and latex, these fabrics illustrate this odd relationship between the glasshouse and the breath-taking array of fauna encased within; something natural, organic and magical encased in a body of man made structured work draws parallels to the shapewear produced here, very much like encasing the female body within such garments. Shapes reflect a vintage feel with non-padded full, 3-piece cups and high waisted pants. I am a Lingerie Designer with experience in various design fields ranging from embroidery to branding. In addition, I have a personal interest in graphic design, illustration, interior /spatial design and textiles. I’m a versatile designer who is always on the hunt for new ideas, different solutions and innovative techniques to carry out any design challenges. BA (Hons) Fashion Illustration

I am inspired by colour, movement and textures. Although competant with hand drawn imagery, my main style of illustration is hand painted textures combined with digital manipulation. I aim to create imagery which fuses traditional methods but produces a futuristic and stylish outcome. At the moment I'm working voluntarily for All Walks Beyond the Catwalk as their in house graphic designer. I've created flyers, a newspaper, posters and certificates for Diversity NOW! a national student competition. I also art directed and illustrated their 2012 Christmas card, which i will continue to do each year. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

I am a bright ambitious textile print designer, demonsrating strong technical skills, seeking to innovate through process, inspired by production. Driven by discovery, Working in the print studio teaches me something new everyday, pushing me to develop my work to the next level. My approach is very hands on and adaptable, not limitied to 9-5 I push my self to achieve top results. Challenging my self at every level gives me motivation. Final Year Collaboration ‘Play becomes party - party becomes work - work becomes play‘ ~ Bauhaus Motto A final year collaboration between menswear student, Adrien Chen, and surface textile student, Antonia Beard. Inspired by the Bauhaus spirit, they started their final year journey with the Bauhaus motto in mind. ‘No longer can anything exist in isolation. We perceive every form as the embodiment of an idea, every piece of work as a manifestation of our innermost selves. Only work which is the product of inner compulsion can have spiritual meaning.‘ ~ Walter Gropius After the fashion of Bauhauslers being true to themselves while researching and designing, Adrien and Antonia then delved into their own unique cultural background and life experience in searching for things that would best define themselves and their aesthetic. ‘Two crazy minds. One raging collection.’ The two first met during the second year collaboration project. The invaluable experience furthering their belief in team work in that they could focus on things that inspire them the most. So they decided to have some more fun together for their final year project. As a menswear student, Adrien has always been more interested in creating shapes and developing his idea on stand and patterns rather than the traditional drawing-then-making process. The shapes and silhouettes for the final year project were developed by playing around the Bauhaus geometric aesthetic and reinventing the traditional Chinese patterns. Being playful and unconventional are the only rules, but feel free to break. For the printing design side, Antonia combined the intensity of Bauhaus painting style and the excitement of light and music from her clubbing adventure to come up with strong and fanatical printing design. Being a proud prints student who believes in traditional handcraft and screen printing process, Antonia completed all the printing with her own bare hands. By overlapping her print design with painstakingly accuracy and with only cyan, yellow, magenta, she achieves something truly extraordinary. With both of them focusing on what excites and inspires them most and paying attention to each other’s progress, they’ve tried their best to realise their vision and ambition. This unique and raving mad menswear collection is the sum of their final year collaboration journey.

‘VASANT UTSAV. Celebration of spring’ a/w 2013 "A celebration is a public performance that marks an important event in the life of a person or a group", (Smithsonian Institution, 1982:p.61). It is an event where something peculiar or particular can be remembered and practiced every year. According to Turner (1981), during celebrations people think and feel more deeply than in everyday life. They express the meanings and values of their societies in special, often vivid ways. Among these is the creation of beautiful or striking objects, which exist only because humankind celebrates its own existence. My collection is a representation of these rituals and habits, in particular the fashions and colours worn and how these affect the clothes and garments worn from day to day. I come from and Indian family where much importance was given to festivals and their celebrations. The one season as well as festival which fascinated me was spring with all textured and coloured outfits worn during the celebrations. To further comprehend the scope of the concept and to continue the visualization into textures, designs, silhouettes and shapes I took this fascination and decided that I would expand it to cover the celebration of spring and see what different outfits were worn by different countries during their spring festivals that included: Spring Break, Holi, Easter, Gangaur, Gangasar mela, Pongal, Pujillay, Nowruz and Pagan. ‘VASANT UTSAV- SPRING CELEBRATION’ WHIICH IS INSPIRED AND DEVELOPED THROUGH INTENSIVE RESEARCH OF STREET WEAR, FOLK WEAR AND PRODUCTS, CUSTOMS CARRIED ON DURING THIS CELEBRATION. IMPORTANCE IS PLACED ON HIGH QUALITY FABRICS. METHODS SUCH AS FELTING AND SPECIALISED MACHINE KNITTING, GLASS BEADING HAVE BEEN INCORPORATED IN GARMENT MAKING. 'Conforming to Optimism' Final Outfit- Year 2 Term 3

FdA Tailoring

I'm very passionate about tailoring and am a keen observer. Submerging myself in art and findings from daily life, all form the basis of my ideas. Paying attention to the spirit of youth, I enjoy creating playful and uplifting outfits, to evoke our inner child: Catering for the carefree and cosmopolitan girl. My design work goes against the norms of classic tailoring. Playing to the senses in creating garments through a multiple of textures and colours.

LOOK 2. FMP

BA (Hons) Fashion: Design & Technology (Top Up)

Thoughtfully constructed tailoring and outerwear with an emphasis on tactile textures and classic, though, playful silhouettes. The graduate collection has its roots in the idea of slowly, over time, furnishing a home. Silhouettes come from furniture and the cloths used echo the textures found in brickwork, wood & upholstery. The collection has a gathered feel rather than traditionally cohesive. For example, there is no fabric repetition and shapes nod to one another subtly rather than appearing as reproductions. The accessories were formed using artist's canvasses, so saturated in paint they could no longer fill their intended purpose, They have the qualities of leather with intense clolour and in some cases traces of the figurative forms painted by the origional artist Gavin Watson. This lead me to explore trompe o'loeil which can be seen in a waistcoat from the collection. As a designer I instinctively create wearable pieces. Outerwear is my forte and I fuse the use of bespoke and production methods leaving a luxurious finish. PUT YOUR COAT ON ITS FREEZING OUTSIDE. You will feel the benefit x

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Menswear

Ema Ranger is a Menswear Designer with a strong focus on utility and sportswear. Designs are a modern take on nineties street wear trends and are designed to be worn by people of “the street”. Garments are designed to be unforgettable, impactful and interesting whilst also being well made, wearable and luxurious. The wearer should be able to take any garment into their wardrobe and work it with all of their favorite looks. Garments are often made from unconventional materials that wouldn’t usually be found within a collection of this kind, this is to try and break the boundaries between “street wear” and high end menswear. “Xcloose” 2012/13 This collection was based on the “street “and the aim was to express the voice of someone who would otherwise be left unheard. The garments were designed for people of the “street”, rather than using them purely for inspiration, and the idea is that they would be able to style key pieces within the collection to express how they feel. Innovative materials and processes have been combined with nineties sportswear inspiration to create an updated version of the original “street” trends. Graffiti and underground music also inspired the design of this trans- seasonal sporty collection for 2012/13.
