BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

Often lead by ideas of our relationships with objects and containers, I have most recently developed ways of embellishment through knit by using knitted pockets filled with beads as a way of bringing colour to textiles and garments, other than yarn colour choices. This has also changed the weight of the knitted fabric. The manipulation of colour in textiles has also been a focus in my most recent work, playing with the idea of dip dyeing, but creating the gradation in colour by using plies of differing colour yarns when producing the textile. Simple garment structures have been used so as not to detract from the detailed and time consuming textiles, and allowing for the knitted textile to form the shape of garments.

Acid western The intention of the collection intends to expose exploitation through the imposition of westernisation by rebelling against it, through designing a revolutionary combatant style. In wanting to learn more about my partner and his family’s background, being from the Democratic Republic of Congo, I read such books as Adam Hochschild’s ‘King Leopold’s Ghosts’ and Chancellor William’s ‘The Destruction of Black Civilisation. With the history, corruption and traditions of the Congo, I was deeply inspired and very passionate to learn more on a personal level and to develop this through a design process. The clothing will make evident the conflict between the Western and African culture by deconstructing and then fusing the elements together in a contrasting way. Looking at the Black Panther’s in particular on how their uniform portrayed their revolutionary message and why is it important to focal point the corruption of westernisation? By juxtaposing the Western culture with the African culture, combining the traditions of the Congo, the zig-zag design, by bonding fabrics together and rastering the zig-zag pattern through on the laser cutting machine onto staple western pieces and silhouettes; the clothing is then heavily embellished with gold paperclips, ring pulls and safety pins, giving it a hand crafted, individual look. The pieces make a statement, with an exaggerated style and excessive colour palette. About me: Being in touch with historical, cultural and modern day issues with the world, my sources of inspiration are enriched with juxtoposing elements creating a strong statement with bold pieces. Exploring different ways to manipulate fabrics, creating something new and interesting out of mundane every day things; with ring pulls and paper clips being highly used in the current collection. Always keen to rebel in an unexpected way... BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

B I O Anna, is a London based fashion designer originally from Budapest, Hungary, She benefited from a liberated artistic upbringing which allowed her free-flowing creativity blossom, she embraced art from an early age and this has consequently led her to fashion. The Szerencs Art School and MADI Art Group has been one of the major influences of her work and development of style. Joining the painting school at the age of 16 it allowed her to develop artistically and provided a platform for her to exhibit her work internationally. (Paris, Moscow, London). In her early fashion design experimentations she adopted her geometric approach from her painting style and applied it to garment structure. This formative style has won her the opportunity to showcase the designs in a Parisian exhibition. In order to gain professional knowledge, experience and understanding, Anna interned at the prestigious Hungarian Fashion House, Luan by Lucia, for a year before moving to London in order to study for degree in fashion design. While studying, at the University of the Arts London (LCF), she has continuously collaborated with fellow students, assists a fashion shows as well as participating in art projects. Her latest works include assisting at Ali Pearce’s Fashion Show, assisting at Christopher Kane’s Fashion Show, and contributing six screen prints at the New Cross Art Fair. Apart from studying, she was working as a studio assistant intern for Christopher Kane. www.annchifashion.com www.facebook.com/annCHIfashion @annCHIfashion F I N A L C O L L E C T I O N Anna Horvath grew up in Budapest in an auction house, where she was surrounded from an early age by artists and art dealers. This had a fundamental influence on her work as a painter and fashion designer. By the age of 16 she became a pupil of the well known avant-garde artist Janos Fajo. Her favourite and most admired artist is the native Hungarian painter and photographer Laszlo Moholy- Nagy. Her graduation collection was based on Moholy’s levitating shapes and his life-long experimentations on transparency: by using overlapping see-through fabrics such as organza and chiffon, Horvath was able to ”mix“ colours. The shapes and propositions of the collection were inspired by Art Deco fashion designers such as Marti, Anon and Atalier Bachwitz. The collection is made up of matchable pieces; some of them have vivid colours which can be toned down by wearing them with pastel or black pieces

John Alexander Skelton ABSTRACT “ The Social problems that undoubtedly affect many working-class communities have come to define the ‘Chav’ caricature. Teenagers pushing strollers, yobs, and feckless adults: This is what Chavs are for many people.” (Jones, 2011 pg194) (British lion) is a project based upon ulterior fashion motives, secrecy and identity. Delving in to the depths of a working class style that is prevalent and thriving in many areas of Britain. Seen in extreme cases, as a uniform of which there is little alternatives. I wish to use this uniform as a basis for development and interpretation, transferring it into a fashion context. I wish to embody the scally/chav style in a more refined and revered for my AW/12 collection. jskelton44@gmail.com

Always dedicated to completing any task that I am instructed to carry out. A reliable, hardworking and punctual person with a very imaginative creative mind. Able to complete a design process, from the initial research stages, to the developed final outcome. Able to understand new ideas quickly and am capable of putting my own ideas across to others very well. Experience BA (Hons) Technical Effects for Performance is a course which explores the creation of three-dimensional constructed images for the human form and its surrounding space within a range of performance contexts. The course is interdisciplinary and covers a broad spectrum: from masks to realistic prosthetic limbs; from armour fabrication to special effects costumes used on 'creature' films; from large carnival costumes to small stop-motion animation puppets. I am based in London and have worked on the West End Show, 'The Lion King' for a number of months within the props department. Skills acquired from this course to date -Sculpting experience, including life sculpting from a model, with the construction and use of armatures. -Creative mask making, using the vacuum forming process. -Puppet head making, using the expanding cold foam process with a two part plaster mould -Experience of casting and moulding using a variety of methods and materials, including life and body casting and other anatomical casting including face, arm and ear. -Pattern cutting to create a stretch lycra suit, which acted as the base for the subsequent addition of body padding including a pregnancy bump, muscular padding based on an animal anatomy, and the application of fur. -The ability to design and follow a design journey to subsequently create a final outcome. -A very good knowledge of health and safety within the working environment, in terms of working with materials and the processes used to create the ultimate outcome of a project. -Collaborating and working as part of a team to successfully create a short film, for which I designed and created a functioning puppet. -Experience working with fiberglass, to create moulds which were filled with silicone and foam latex. I am constantly looking for ways in which I can further my knowledge and creative skills within a performance context.

Fly Me To The Moon by FANGWEN.2012

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

"Fly Me To The Moon" by FANGWEN.X Considering my design, I would not use fashion, elegance, minimalism or other specific words to describe my style. I have used my pure imagination to present an art and a state of being. It presents the vulnerability, silence and wonder of life, a human form that leaves the restriction of reality away to reach an unlimited space. It seems everyone has in his/her mind a subtle piece of garment indicating the secret dwelling of his/her soul. Once it is found, a consistent state of being will be discovered. The garment seems to reveal life experience and secret. It uncovers an infinite and extraordinary vision epically out of the restrained physical form. My design is for a harmonious world full of pure delight, dream and romance; and for people who are attractive and warm hearted. FANGWEN XU Fashion Designer xfangwenx@gmail.com +44 (0)75123 666 88
