BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

Post-Eschatologist is a collection visualizing a hypothetical ending. It is a reaction to the paranoia surrounding the Mayan 2012 doomsday phenomenon and more importantly a response to recent conflicts with Government and turmoil caused by social upheaval and rioting. If the world were truly to end, what cultures and values would we lose, and more interestingly, what would re-emerge? The key concepts are primitive protection, ethnic utilitarianism, and poetic fragility. This collection looks into how people have dealt with hardship in the past in post-war eras, evidence of military presence translates into the tough and rugged steel buckles and belt loops found in harnessed garments. The clash of the hardware with surrounding delicate silks and unraveling edges evoke a feeling of the utilitarian uniform deteriorating into elegance scarred from a harsh, bygone era. Gauze cut on the selvedge gives a nod to the days of rationing and armor-like, geometrical jade beading on knitted net merge ancient Mayan ritual with ammunition shells. The juxtaposition of emergency mylar-fused fabric, protective neoprene backed wool, and distressed gauze is a prediction of what might be to come. Spliced furs from varying textures, colours, and lengths create forms reminiscent of wild animals but with new, unfamiliar, and almost impossible characteristics suggesting new a species. Taking hints from the past, Post-Eschatologist brings melancholic emotions and ceremonial cultures into modern day with sensitivity towards materials, texture, and proportion.

‘Inspirational Youth’ London College of Fashion & Tigi Collaboration 2012

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

----+++++++ ALL PIECES ARE NOT IN THE UK +++++++ ---- ‘Inspirational Youth’ London College of Fashion & TIGI Collaboration 2012 more info: www.tigi.co.uk/ ---------------------------------------- ‘WIMPOLE’ AW12 more info: http://chichiluo.com/wimpole-aw12/ sales contact: info@chichiluo.com ---------------------------------------- Graduate Collection 2011 This Spring/Summer collection is inspired by my trip to Tibet in China last summer. The colour palette is based on photographs, which have taken by myself during the trip. The selected colours are bright, vivid, and energetic, which represent Tibetan people's kindness, boldness, faith and passion to their religion. I bravely play with these colours, and get lots of unique results by using different hand dye techniques.

The silhouette of this collection is based on what Tibetan people are wearing, which inspires me to do lots of draping through this collection by using flexible fabric, such as silk chiffon and silk jersey. I then draped and layered them up, to create a new look for Tibetan people. I was inspired by Tibetan women's braided hair. I transferred this idea on to part of my clothes by developing to complicated handcraft techniques such as macramé and knotting. That is why you can see lots of amazing macramé pieces in this collection. Also there are many colourful wooden beads at the end of each rope on macramé, which symbolized the beautiful Buddha prayer beads. BREIZH COLLECTION The AW13 Collection combines the heritage of Brittany with the modern techniques of shoe making. Delicate details from traditional costumes associated with a contemporary twist were source of inspiration to produce the range. The designs combined with luxurious materials and craftmanship create an exclusive collection with a traditional yet avant-garde feel. Already at a young age Pauline Courtois was wearing her grandmother's high heels. It came as no surprise when she chose shoe design as a career. During her studies she received in depth training, from researching inspiration to the process of shoemaking, as well as studying the martket and consumers. Now having gained strong knowledge and skills she has a precise and efficient approach to design and choice of materials. Her professional experiences brought her maturity and organisation. She is open minded, full of creativity, and a social person who rapidely finds her place in a new company. She loves to exchange ideas and is always ready for a new challenge. Pauline Courtois is currently looking for work within the footwear industry and is now keen to demonstrate her skills and passion in a new graduate role. Cruise Comfort in our surroundings, exposure to the unknown. It all effects and modifies the way in which we behave and dress; Cruise is a collaboration between Luke Shaw and Freyja Sjöfn that explores the contrasts of what is perceived to be normal with ideas of otherworldly situations. For the other half of this collection: http://showtime.arts.ac.uk/freyjasjofn _____________________________________________________ My work takes on a playful edge in order to explore more experimental designs in menswear. The collection is based on the idea that each person is different and how they react to unexpected situations is a reflection of their character and how they choose to portray themselves. I found that being open and flexible was instrumental in making and producing a collection that reflects our personalities. In the future I want to continue working on introducing more processes and construction techniques in menswear design. By focusing on the creation of the materials and how they are used I believe that it can have a lasting effect on menswear design.

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Surface Textiles

I am a BA Surface Textiles third year student, I came from Hong Kong. I have fished my Foundation Degree in Surface Textiles with a Merit plus last year. I had lot of joy being here, and have been so hard working, I always get stressed so easily, but stress sometimes just make me work better, more creative and work faster. I have experienced few areas of textiles, for instance, prints, dye, machines embroideries, CAD embroidery, etc. I have also used hand embroidery for my last project. These experiences enable me to be creative and present the beauty of the textiles samples onto fashion garments designs.

'La Bellezza' Collection

BA (Hons) Cordwainers Accessories: Product Design & Development

‘La Bellezza’ SS 2013 Collection is inspired by the glamour of Portofino with its scenic views of coloured houses: the turquoise sea and rocking fishing boats lying in the harbour appear as if time has stood still. Celebrating the Italian classic style and their effortless elegance exemplified by the style in which women on the Isle of Capri wore silk scarves so effortlessly in the 1950s. The collection combines the inspiration from 1950’s by looking at vintage bag constructions, reinventing them with a modern twist. Incorporating vintage scarves and using exotic skins, such as python and lizard throughout the whole collection. Pushing the design further with jewel-like studs as fittings, covered in brightly coloured exotic skins. My approach to accessories design starts with a love for classic and vintage bag design, taking elements to create a more modern design representing the perfect balance in craftsmanship, innovative and attention to detail, to create a high quality product.

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

My inspiration is a culmination of opposites combining feminine with masculine and structures with delicate handcrafted embellishments. The foremost aim is to create individuality for the wearer with the vision that each piece is an heirloom that can be passed down through generations. Its aimed at the modern woman – a female who is strong, confident and unafraid to embrace her masculine side while stepping out beautifully sexy and alluring.

ABOUT: YEA:JI SUNG is a contemporary footwear designer brand that creates conceptual and architectural, yet accessible footwear for women. YEA :JI SUNG is not aiming for a totally commercial look but still being simple. Mainly focused on shapes which then allow the design to look more architectural and contemporary. COLLECTION: For designer's debut Autumn/Winter 2012-3 collection is presented with 9 styles. The collection is inspired by art movement from the 20th century focusing on the both Art Deco and Cubism. Geometric shapes and forms that have an architectural side has mainly inspired in designs PRESS: "Once again the simple triangle consumes a collection as Yea Ji Sung looked at shapes from the art deco period and cubism to inspire what she admits is a simultaneously commercial and directional collection. My Twitter page doesn't lie and as I do like a chunky heel, they don't get any chunkier than these carved wooden ones with triangular cut-outs and outlines." - Style Bubbles (http://www.stylebubble.co.uk/style_bubble/2012/07/shoes-n-things.html) Contacts ; yeajee.sung@gmail.com

The collection is inspired by the smooth curves and linear elements of 60’s furniture, smooth shiny wooden panels that sit next to upholstered bright hues in coarse Meltons. Concrete poured buildings with rounded edges, curved openings & material contrasts. The collection plays with proportion & texture contrasts. Opposing textures sit alongside each other, a shiny patent leather tops a fluffy angora, a juxtaposition that emphasises both textures. Heritage fabrics are central to the design concept. She aims to create wearable fashion that is relevant to women today. Colour plays a key part in all her work, taking prominence in both her garments and her editorial work. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

Glitter with Substance The intention of the collection intends to expose exploitation through the imposition of westernisation by rebelling against it, through designing a revolutionary combatant style. In wanting to learn more about my partner and his family’s background, being from the Democratic Republic of Congo, I read such books as Adam Hochschild’s ‘King Leopold’s Ghosts’ and Chancellor William’s ‘The Destruction of Black Civilisation. With the history, corruption and traditions of the Congo, I was deeply inspired and very passionate to learn more on a personal level and to develop this through a design process. The clothing will make evident the conflict between the Western and African culture by deconstructing and then fusing the elements together in a contrasting way. Looking at the Black Panther’s in particular on how their uniform portrayed their revolutionary message and why is it important to focal point the corruption of westernisation? By juxtaposing the Western culture with the African culture, combining the traditions of the Congo, the zig-zag design, by bonding fabrics together and rastering the zig-zag pattern through on the laser cutting machine onto staple western pieces and silhouettes; the clothing is then heavily embellished with gold paperclips, ring pulls and safety pins, giving it a hand crafted, individual look. The pieces make a statement, with an exaggerated style and excessive colour palette. About me: Being in touch with historical, cultural and modern day issues with the world, my sources of inspiration are enriched with juxtoposing elements creating a strong statement with bold pieces. Exploring different ways to manipulate fabrics, creating something new and interesting out of mundane every day things; with ring pulls and paper clips being highly used in the current collection. Always keen to rebel in an unexpected way... HOW TO FOLD

FdA Cordwainers Accessory Design

My starting point was if a product has a function but it is hidden, how I can overcome the limitations of such a design. The bag appears to be the same as other bags, but if one section is pulled out, it will be a different shape, or its features can be changed if it is reorganised. So I thought origami is one of solution if I use it. The origami is from the flat paper, it can have a lot of features according to how it is folded so it can be something from nothing. I thought about flexible products with how to be folded and it has various ways to use with folding. For example, it is just plain surface before fold but it has special pattern with folded some part. I think this can be good example to show what my concept is, and how I want to make accessories. The other idea is make pattern with folding guide line. It will be also foldable part and that guide line can be one of design for product. It has three types to guides. These guide lines are for cutting, folding to inside and folding to outside. It can be unique patterns for making. www.sungminhan.com hsm0913@gmail.com

The spring/summer collection is influenced by strong female characters- Amelia Earhart and Mulan. Taking inspiration from Royal Air Force and ancient china armoury, aiming to create a collection shows modern women who are not afraid to challenge the things which others thought women couldn’t achieve. With the combination of an eco-energy solar panel, these women are assuming greater responsibility in our world and our future. The use of coated denim and lightly sheen grosgrain fabric brings a low-profile luxury feel. Adding on metalic gold and silver details over the basic black, grey, blue colour palette gives the collection a bright balance and modern look. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ About me: An energetic proactive student from BA Fashion Design and Technology Womenswear at London College of Fashion (2011graduate).
