BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development

Collection Website. http://www.thisisborn.co.uk/ Bio. Beginning each design journey with hand-rendered illustrations and drawings, my work primarily explores the balance between the reveal and conceal of the body, focussing on the construction of personal identities through the layering of texture and print. The Capsule Collection 'The Original Parchment' primarily explores a deep fascination towards bodily adornments across different cultures and communities. Inspired by the way in which the body acts as a personal canvas, sources of influence for the collection derived from the exploration into tattooing, branding and bruising of the skin drawing on both a graphic and textural aesthetic. Introducing the use of Laser cutting adds new texture working to develop the range into much more of a textural look, drawing out a 3D illustrative quality back onto the body. Engaging with my global responsibilities as a designer is integral to the basis of my work, manifested through the use of reclaimed, organic and Fair Trade materials wherever possible, always working towards the creation of socially and ecologically ethical pieces. Whilst consistently posing challenges in the sourcing and experimentation processes, these boundaries work to push my developmental process further into finding a newness in the creation of artwork onto the body. By combining commercial awareness and conceptual aesthetic, my work reflects a desire to see products which challenge the conventions of consumerist fashion. This Capsule Collection aims to offer a sustainable and wearable product range founded on a love for print, colour and texture. ''Lastbreathe'' by Robert Wun 2011

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

Women's Wear Fashion Design Based in London and Hong Kong robertwun@gmail.com www.robertwun.tumblr.com www.robertwun.com '' B u r n t '' by Robert Wun 2012 -Curiosity towards the bonds between Nature and Man has always been a main inspiration to me. Discovering the symmetrical flaws in nature led me to a deeper attraction of microphotographs of butterflies and moths. Insects we perceive to be symmetrical and consequently, beautiful. Yet it was the flaws in nature that triggered my interest. Where nature design many things in symmetrical proportions but yet both left and right sides are slightly different. To achieve this particular idea I had to use techniques whereby you cannot control the outcome, like burning and melting. Delve into the idea that nothing is perfect. All those ruffles are created by waddings with burnt out gradient patterns, highly crafted in-between with glass organza. Also led to a very artificial fabric ranges, Neoprene, Organza, Lycra, Foam and waddings. Using artificial based resources to regenerate an idea of nature with organic working methods. Symbolizing the relations between man and nature. While the ombre effects created by digital printings and hand dip-dyed works like a harmony between two extremes. Man and Nature, Black and White. Something I always fascinated and inspired from. Accessories’ detail development looked towards the structure of insects under a microscope, examining the scales and limbs intricately and transporting these spiky visuals into platform heels with a horned toe. The idea of nature versus artificial, generated as a vision of a striking, independent women’s wear collection, bizarre in a sophisticated, yet appealing way.

BA (Hons) Fashion: Design Technology (Footwear Design)

Tosin Mogaji is a young footwear designer and recent graduate of BA (Hons) Cordwainers Footwear Design at London College of Fashion. Having previously studied Art & Design in college, Tosin naturally found herself drawn to the creative and functional aspect of creating footwear products. With her final year collection, emphasis was placed on designing and making shoes that are minimal in style, with a focus on strong, clean design lines suitable for a contemporary woman. As a creative thinker pioneering in trends in fashion design, she thoroughly enjoys the research and design process leading to the creation of products that will communicate her desired aesthetic. This being a reflection of her own take on modern style, identity and culture. With this Autumn/Winter 2013/2014 collection, inspiration was found in layering constructions and an exploration into subtle colour contrasts. The concept involved including shoes within the range that take on a more androgynous style approach, aiming to reflect a shift in modern and future trends she finds inspirational. Whilst studying Cordwainers Footwear Design, she has gained experience developing new ideas to be translated into footwear prototypes, for self-directed projects and commercial work for various companies. tosin_m@hotmail.co.uk Photographer: Alejandro Cavallo

BA (Hons) Cordwainers Footwear: Product Design & Development

The inspiration for my final major project came from London as a city. I am strongly influenced by my surroundings and the city as a space for inspiration has become a recurring theme within my work. The three main aspects I explored for this project are detail, movement and texture.

Final Major Project: Nature's Geometry

BA (Hons) Fashion: Design & Technology (Top Up)

The concept for this project is based around natural geometry, hence the name Nature's Geometry, I have explored this concept through different patterns found in nature. This concept has been chosen so that the purpose of this could expose the beauty of nature and the importance of sustainability. I consider sustainability to be an important value in my design and making process, so this ensures the end product is streamlined and styled for substance. I am currently industry experience as I'm extremely eager to translate the skills I've gained on my course into the commercial realm. Please feel to contact me for any queries.

Water and Illusion Photography

BA (Hons) Costume for Performance

I am motivated and dedicated, looking to explore sensory design and the relationship between technology and live performance. I have worked in film and television as an assistant designer and buyer. Over the last year I have worked closely with the designer Moritz Junge, assisting him on projects with Wayne McGregor's Random Dance, The Royal Opera House and The National Theatre. I am currently assisting Moritz as he designs for the Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony. In July 2011 I designed costumes for ATMA Dance Company’s performance of Sivaloka performed at the British Museum. This year I have focused my design on creating an immersive contemporary dance piece. “Amorphous” is an immersive contemporary dance piece which seeks to engage its audience through a heightened sensory environment. It touches on the concept of synesthesia. The piece is loosely based on Katie Mitchell’s play “Waves” which seeks to deconstruct Virginia Woolf’s novels “Moments of Being” and “The Waves”. “Amorphous”focuses on the movement of a small phylum of bioluminescent echinoderms: forms of sea life such as sea cucumbers, and sea urchins which may use their own light to attract or deter prey. Settled at first, they have to respond to a change in their environment which disorientates and disturbs them. The physical experience of the piece is enhanced by the vibrations from the music’s bass line which forms the reference points for the dancers: the remainder of the score may be heard through headphones, intensifying the auditory experience. Electro luminescent wire built into the costumes responds directly to this bass line, whilst a computer application created specifically for Amorphous by Hellicar and Lewis controls the speed of the projected film through response to the score. This intensifies the visual experience and enhances the link between the auditory and the visual. Kiki Tse: Large quilted hoodie

BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear

Since graduating, Kiki have been working as a self-employed stylist and dressmaker. You can find her present work on www.kiki-tse.com, and Wordpress: http://kikitse.wordpress.com. This 2008 graduation collection is inspired by a summer vacation in Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. The art of Pre-Columbia period, stretching across 50000 years and encompass the traditions of many different cultures, including the Olmecs, Mayas and Aztecs. Elements are taken from old sculptures, the beautiful architectures of Chichen Itza and radiant vibrant jewelled colours from the Mayans crafted suede throws. These ancient ingredients are developed into a modern colourful fashion sportswear. Everyday wear is utilised into contemporary exaggerated size, similar to the two iconic 80's fashion label Body Map and Katherine Hamnett. The symmetrical silhouettes are cut into strong simplistic shape, so easy to wear, with hand-crafted belts clinched to the waist giving it added movement of fullness. Fuchsia, emerald and turquoise, these three beautiful bright jewelled colours are deliberately chosen and contrasted with black to style into a block colouring scheme. Greatly influenced by Jill Sander's Spring/Summer '07 &'08 collection. Initial influences are details taken from old figurine sculptures, using the fatness and round shape from belts and developing this into a more approvable accessories wear. Continuation of this idea is carried through to stripes finishing along the neckline and armholes. Most of the garments are made in 100% wool jersey from all different weights, and hems are hand finished to make this collection into an upper market level. The square dress is the single piece made in silk crepe to keep the soft movement of the shape. A hand-punched leather belt is added around the waist through the fabric, to form drapes around the body. This piece is taken from a particular stone figurine wearing a short type of poncho with board bands running across its body. Maintaining the craft of Mexican art, various sized squares are used and carefully hand-punched onto pony skin leather. The sequences are taken from a wall with criss-cross formation from the ruins in Chichen Itza. Quilting is also used on the hood to represent the life of Temple of Kukulkan (El Castillo). BA (Hons) Cordwainers Footwear: Product Design & Development

My name is Ozge Barut, I am soon going to be graduating from the Cordwainers BA (Hons) in Footwear: Product Design and Development at London College of Fashion. I am from Istanbul and based in London. This has allowed me to develop a perspective focusing on the adaptability of multi cultural aspects on contemporary design. This also gives me easy access to the footwear manufacturing industry and relevant suppliers in Turkey. I design to achieve authenticity in a multi-cultural but global village. I believe in expressing this in the very details of my design. The tools I use to convey my message are colours, textures and materials. In this project I tried to express the cross-cultural detail through an inspiration born from the accessories used in old ottoman 'hamams" (turkish baths). These accessories mainly included traditional clogs, textural materials and cloths. I transformed a local, traditional and cultural element, into a modern fashionable and contemporary product where it can be used as a tool to express ones individuality through authentic details.
